Coward's is dressed with unique art and antiques that complement its feel of timeless elegance and charm. Snooze, Gay Friendly Guest House St Georges Terrace, Kemp Town, Brighton ![]() www.snoozebrighton.com From the outside, a smart and unassuming period townhouse in the heart of Kemp Town. Once inside, prepare to be amazed by a plethora of 50s, 60s and 70s furnishings together with objets d'art from other eras that make this super and unique guest house so very special. Each bedroom has its own genre: comfy leather sofas, club chairs, antique floral basins, risqué artwork, opulent fabrics and gilt mirrors abound, all vying for attention. The crowning glory is the amazing multi-coloured breakfast room which is nothing less than a temple to the early sixties café. Snooze is pleasingly quirky, retro chic and oh so sexy. It's a fabulous friendly guest house that is deliciously different, created by The Snooze Crew. |

Paskins Gay Friendly Hotel Charlotte Street, Brighton ![]() www.paskins.co.uk On my arrival at the Art Nouveau reception I was welcomed by a happy smiley member of staff who showed me to one of the 19 rooms, each of which are individual in design and perhaps a little quirky but not at the expense of being comfortable. I cannot decide which aspect of Paskins I find most appealing, whether it is the two fine town houses it occupies or the vibrant palette of the decor. There is of course the famous Art Deco breakfast room which is simply stunning, the individuality of the bedrooms, the amazingly good food and Susan and Roger's incredible passion to operate Paskins in an ethically responsible way without detriment to their guests' comfort or the environment. I know that it is now very vogue to make such claims, but these guys have been practising this for the last fifteen years. The breakfast room is special and it is easy to understand why so many Art Deco aficionados pay unconditional homage here. The menu provides an astonishing variety of imaginative vegetarian and vegan delights, 3 fishy dishes, a full English to die for and some intriguing specials. How cool can it be to arrive and relax in such a friendly, welcoming atmosphere that bears not a hint of dust nor slavish attitudes to style? This is where Vivienne Westwood might have met Amelia Earhart. |

Gay Owned and Run Hotel Charlotte Street, Brighton ![]() www.brightonpavilions.com |
Brighton Pavilions I wonder what Queen Victoria would have made of this replica of her four-poster bed lavishly swagged with silk drapes and crowned with ostrich feathers in a large room with a beautifully draped bay window from where you get a cheeky view of the sea. The walls are hung with portraits of her family and the marble fireplace and salon chairs are the crowning glory of this unashamedly decadent piece of theatre and just like the other themed rooms, it's sensational. Breakfasting amongst potted greenery in the elegant Palm Court Dining Room completes the illusion that Ken and Phill have worked so hard to achieve.
